YYC SPOTTING GUIDE

Plane Spotting at Calgary International Airport

Calgary International Airport is one of the busiest airports in Canada, and is a hub for both WestJet and Air Canada. While there may not be as much variety as other airports, there are a few locations to capture the interesting aircraft!

Click on the points in the Google Map above to find out more. You can also click on "View larger map" in the top right corner for a better view on mobile.

The airport has four runways:

  1. 17R/35L, the west parallel runway, oriented north-south
  2. 17L/35R, the east parallel runway, also the longest one in Canada
  3. 11/29, the crosswind runway oriented northwest-southeast
  4. 08/26, which is currently closed for aircraft storage, oriented east-west

When plane spotting, please be mindful of your surroundings, don't park in reserved spaces, and always follow the directions of airport security. Most of the time, they will not take any issue towards plane spotters, but the airport requires that all vehicles or obstacles (i.e., ladders) be no closer than 10 feet from the fence.

This goes without saying, but please pick up after yourselves - certain individuals have used these locations for illegal dumping, and we enthusiasts risk losing access.
